A native of Austin, Texas, Matthew Lyons began playing guitar when he was ten. He received his Bachelor of Music in 2014 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of David Tanenbaum and Sergio Assad. Past performances include the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (2013) and Napa Valley’s Festival Del Sole (2011). He was the second prize winner in the 2009 Guitar Foundation of America International Youth Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2010 GFA International Concert Artist Competition. Playing in rock bands into his teens, Matthew became enamored with jazz and classical music simultaneously in the 9th grade, and continues to study and play in these styles. He also has a background in composing and arranging, writing primarily for solo guitar and smaller ensembles. He has taught guitar privately since 2008 and incorporates patience, attention to detail, and a wide musical background into his teaching style.
